You have been found guilty of the most heinous crimes, of which there is only one sentence: the death penalty. You come face-to-face with tortured souls stuck in purgatory. Will you escape, or join them? Just remember…it begins with death…<\/strong><\/p>\n Only running for one season, The Passing was a daring maze which saw the park further push the envelope of what they could with a scare maze. Guests had to wear hoods for the majority of the maze, but unlike most hooded mazes, these hoods were partially see-through, featured headphones to play extra audio and there was no guide rope to help people through.<\/p>\n The maze was also the park’s first foray into a paid maze. Due to having a lower throughput than the other mazes, the park charged \u00a33 per person, and gave timeslots to guests.<\/p>\n The Passing started off with guests being lined up against a wall by a prison guard. You had already been sentenced to death,and were to face to firing squad. A large flash and bang later, and you were dead. This led to guests being grouped into a small room with a screen above them, showing them being buried, whilst several people shouted at you and spit in your grave.<\/p>\n Afterwards, guests were then greeted by a cloaked figure, death themselves, who would guide guests into one of three tunnels. These tunnels were extremely long, and featured multiple turns and changes in height, which was extremely unnerving given the large hoods you were wearing.<\/p>\n The rest of the maze then followed the same route as Hellgate, the maze which was previously in the space. As guests’ vision was restricted, there was little change to the maze or the theming, but actors were able to appear out of nowhere too.<\/p>\n At the end of the maze, guests were greeted by two uniformed staff in a bright, white room who gave guests a certificate of death, and led them out. During this lead out, the lights went out, showing the certificate scrawled in UV paint saying “Rot in Hell” and multiple actors appearing from nowhere!<\/p>\n Whilst a memorable ending, it was a one-trick pony, meaning the maze had little repeat value. The hoods were also quite uncomfortable to wear, and the headphones had many technical issues.<\/p>\n Nevertheless, The Passing was a fantastic idea which showed the park’s ambition to be original, scary and innovative. It was also the first maze which was part of a wider, park theme: in 2012, the park styled Fright Nights and the park under the Thorpe Park Penitentiary.
