After all, the park were adding new coasters every 3 years at that time! But due to a variety of reasons, we had to wait. But fortunately, Hyperia was worth the wait!

Having been so long since the park invested in a roller coaster, they took the “go big or go home” adage seriously, building the tallest coaster in the country, smashing the record that had been held for 30 years. This “hyper coaster” (a roller coaster between 200ft and 299ft) is unlike most traditional ones though, which usually have long, sprawling layouts and no inversions. Instead, Hyperia packs a series of fast-paced, hard-hitting unique elements gracefully one after the other, to really stand out from the crowd. It is also the first major – and inverting – roller coaster at the park to feature state-of-the-art lap bars, as opposed to over-the-shoulder restraints.

After a dramatic exit from the station, the train goes through a slow outerbank curve, before taking 25 seconds to climb to its 236ft peak. The ride then goes down a vertical drop, whilst also twisting 90 degrees, before going into a large non-inverting Immelmann. These elements give riders plenty of airtime, whilst also provide high g-force moments.

The on ride photo point is here, before the ride goes through a unique outerbank twisted dive: the train climbs 50m into the air, before twisting riders out to the left, whilst the train turns right. This then continues to turn the train upside down, before it then twists back down to the ground. In total, riders experience 4.2 seconds of airtime on this element alone! Many fans have tried naming this never-before-seen element, but both Thorpe and Mack feel “outerbank dive” is suffice, although internally within Mack, it was nicknamed the Kremer Roll, after one of the designers of the ride’s track layout, Maurice Kremer.

Following this, the ride goes through a long and drawn out stall loop, before swooping down to earth and into a splashdown, which slows the train down slightly. This allows the final two airtime hills in the ride to be taken at a comfortable speed (whilst still giving plenty of airtime!)

Hyperia was designed to break records, but it was also focused on giving riders as much as airtime as possible! But in doing so, the park have broken many records with Hyperia:

UK’s tallest roller coaster: 236ft

UK’s fastest roller coaster: 81mph

UK’s roller coaster with the most amount of airtime: 14.8 seconds

Europe’s tallest roller coaster inversion: 168ft

It also is Thorpe Park’s longest roller coaster: 995.4m long!

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_video src=”https://youtube.com/shorts/Do7kNSIdq4o?si=sKsIeskHIIBL9Gjp” play_icon_color=”#f66504″ thumbnail_overlay_color=”rgba(0,0,0,0.6)” _builder_version=”4.27.0″ border_radii=”on|10px|10px|10px|10px” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_video][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_margin=”0px||||false|false” custom_padding=”0px||||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_testimonial portrait_url=”https://www.thorpeparkmania.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/TwitterLogo.jpg” quote_icon=”off” portrait_width=”45px” portrait_height=”45px” _builder_version=”4.27.0″ background_image=”https://www.thorpeparkmania.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/patt28.jpg” background_size=”contain” background_repeat=”repeat” background_layout=”dark” custom_padding=”23px||10px||false|false” animation_style=”fade” border_radii=”on|10px|10px|10px|10px” border_width_all_portrait=”3px” border_color_all_portrait=”#ffffff” box_shadow_style_image=”preset1″ text_shadow_style=”preset3″ global_colors_info=”{}”]

Thorpe Park Mania Tip

Hyperia can attract quite a lengthy wait!
