Once a quaint town, the apocalypse has ravaged through and left nothing but ruin in Dead Creek Woods. Explore through at your peril, as some of the inhabitants left behind are less than friendly…

Dead Creek Woods was advertised as a ‘bonus’ / ‘surprise’ maze in 2018 in some ways, being formally announced just 1 week before the event first started, and almost 2 weeks after the line up for Fright Nights 2018 was revealed. In reality, this was not the case: it had been a planned addition for much longer, but this marketing ploy helped make it seem like we were getting even more.

In the summer of the 2018 season, the park ran “Zombie Hunt”, an interactive, family-friendly walkthrough that started at the Canada Creek Railway station and ended in the compound next to the I’m a Celebrity maze. The park utilised this space for Dead Creek Woods, and whilst the story was different, they kept the design and layout practically identical.

As such, Dead Creek Woods was a short maze, which was entirely outdoors. However, it was filled with a lively cast, which helped keep up its intensity. Also, as the ending of the maze was on an uneven surface, not many scares could happen there. To compensate, the park introduced a chainsaw run mid-way through the maze, allowing guests to get a big scare from the maze still. This did mean the rest of the maze fell a bit flat, and left the maze feeling even shorter.

Dead Creek Woods was, in its own right, not a bad scare attraction. However, the quality of the theming and the length of the attraction was not something that was expected at Thorpe Park’s Fright Nights, meaning it did leave a little to be desired.
